A French connect for Rajiv Menon’s Sarvam Thaala Mayam

Ace cinematographer-turned-director Rajiv Menon is ready with his latest project Sarvam Thaala Mayam starring music composer-turned-actor G. V. Prakash in the lead. Touted to be a musical, the film is now being co-produced by a French production house.

Titled Madras Beats in English, the film traces the journey of G. V. Prakash a drummer who belongs to the Dalit community, dreams of making it big in Carnatic music. French production house Ghosts City is co-producing the movie along with Rajiv Menon’s Mindscreen Cinemas. In an exclusive interview with Screen Daily, Ravin Menon has said: “Madras Beats is a musical with a strong sense of realism and a story of hope where a young person from the outside overcomes odds to succeed in a rarefied world of classical Indian music.” The website also reported that French editor Nadia Ben Rachid and sound mixer Thierry Delor, who worked on Abderrahmane Sissako’s award-winning Timbuktu (2014) are also on board in the project.

Academy award-winning music composer A. R. Rahman has composed the music for this film. The movie also stars Nedumudi Venu, Aparna Balamurali, Vineeth and Dhivyadarshini. The Indian version will have a run time of 125-minute version while the international version will have a run time of 111-minutes.

This is Rajiv Menon’s third directorial after Minsaara Kanavu (1997) and Kandukondain Kandukondain (2000) which were box-office hits.
