While story and performance was the reason for victory of several films, the star value of the actors mattered too. From Mahesh Babu to Mohanlal – actors shone in their films and catered to the liking of their fans. Here’s a look at the most-awaited films Malayalam, Telugu films of 2020.
Malayalam
Kurup
Haunting and menacing. That’s what Kurup promises to be as it will showcase the life of the life of the most celebrated criminal of Kerala- Sukumara Kurup. Starring Dulquer Salmaan, the film has been directed by Srinath Rajendran and scripted by Daniell Sayooj Nair and KS Aravind.
Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham
The film is based on the battle exploits of Kunjali Marakkar IV—the naval chieftain of the Zamorin of Calicut. Directed by Priyadarshan, the film’s leading star is Mohanlal while his son, Pranav appears in a cameo. Made on a budget of 100 crores, the film also stars, National-awarding winning actor Keerthy Suresh, Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty, Arjun Sarja, Siddique, and Manju Warrier among others.

After playing the role of a chief minister in last year’s Telugu film Yatra on YSR Reddy, Mammootty is all set to play the role of a chief minister in the Malayalam movie One. Directed by Santhosh Viswanath, the film also stars Joju George, Ramesh Pisharody, Shankar Ramakrishnan and Sudev Nair among others.
Telugu
Sarileru Neekevvaru
After setting records with his film Maharishi last year, Mahesh Babu begins 2020 with a bang with the first big Telugu film of the year Sarileru Neekevvaru. Directed by Anil Ravipudi, the film will see Mahesh Babu play the role of an army man. It also marks the return of Vijay Shanti in films after 13 years.
Ala Vaikunthapurramloo
Stylish stars Allu Arjun is all set to arrive this Sankaranti with his film Ala Vaikunthapurramloo. Starring Pooja Hedge, Sushant, Jairam and Tabu, the film has been directed by Trivikram. This marks his third collaboration with the actor.
Nishabdham
A bilingual, thriller movie stars Anushka and Madhavan in lead roles. While Anushka plays the role of a disabled person, while Madhavan plays the role of a musician. The film also starts Hollywood actor, Michael Madsen.
