Can ’96 live up to the hype?

96 Movie

The buzz around the film ’96 has been going strong ever since the teaser of the film released. Backed by Govind Vasantha‘s addictive score, Trisha’s simple yet striking looks, and Vijay Sethupathi‘s casual avatar, the teaser struck a chord with the fans. Now, the trailer also seems to be making the right kind of noise. Directed by C. Prem Kumar, the trailer has revealed that the film will trace the life of Janu (Trisha) and Ram (Vijay Sethupathi)who meet at their 1996 batch school reunion, which explains the title of the film. The scenes show unrequited teenage love between the two.

But why is that fans are going gaga over it? For starters, fans are getting to see Trisha in a fresh and relatable look. Trisha’s last film Mohini, disappointed viewers especially since it was her Tamil film after her film Kodi which release in 2016 While Kodi featured her in a powerful role of an ambitious politician, Mohini was all things silly especially the horror theme it employed with shoddy graphics.

Now, fans are having a positive feeling witnessing Trisha in a role that would remind them of her appearance in the film Mounam Pesiyadhe (2002). Clad in a simple yellow kurta and silk stole, Trisha displays a sparkle in her eyes, a longing on her face, and a level of vulnerability in her approach – she teases the viewers to watch out for her! However, Trisha would not be dubbing for herself in the film. Singer Chinmayi Sripada who sang the popular ‘Kathale’ track which released in the teaser took to her social media to share that she has dubbed for Trisha in the film. And stated the reason for the same.

As for Vijay Sethupathi, people have enjoyed watching him in the 2017 film, Vikram Vedha as it projected him in a role unusual from his rest. Given that he is a fantastic performer who delivers his best, ’96 would portray him as a simple boy-next-door who is sure to be a character anyone would love.

The relatability of the characters, the chemistry and freshness Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha they share and Govind Vasantha’s fantastic soundtrack are surely crowd-pulling factors of the film.

What are your expectations from the film? let us know in the comments section below.
