Gaja destruction: Celebrities urge people to donate for the Delta region

A few days ago Tamil Nadu was hit by cyclone Gaja. The worst affected regions of the state were Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, and Thanjavur. Meteorologists are calling this the worst-hit region by a cyclone, based on data from the last 25 years. The cyclone has claimed the lives of over 30. Not just that, it has also destroyed thousands of acres of banana plantations in Trichy, Thanjavur, Nagapattinam, Karur and Pudukkottai districts. Vedaranyam, which is home to the second largest salt producing regions in Tamil Nadu was also hit. It is reported that nearly 2 lakh tonnes of salt was destroyed.
The Tamil Nadu CM, Edappadi K. Palaniswami announced that the families of the deceased will be provided Rs 10 lakh each.
Celebrities are now taking to their social media to urge fans to contribute to the delta region. Varalakshmi Sarathkumar tweeted ”We all came together so beautifully for our #ChennaiFloods but the time has come again..the farmers who give us our food have no food, water or electricity.. it’s our duty.”
