In director Mani Ratnam’s Kaatru Veliyidai wing Indian Air Force Squadron Leader Varun (Karthi)’s fighter jet is shot down. By Pakistan army, he is then captured and tortured as a prisoner. In prison, he thinks about his Leela (Aditi Rao).

Now, in real-life, IAF wing commander Abhinandan is in Pakistan’s custody. Interestingly, his father Air Marshal S Varthaman was the consultant on Mani Ratnam’s film. Sharp coincidence, isn’t it?

Celebrities including Vishal, Pranitha, Kathir are tweeted in support of the commander with the hashtag #Abhinandanmyhero which is trending right now. Karthi, the actor who played the IAF pilot in Kaatru Veliyidai tweeted
“I’m very fortunate to have met a few of our fighter pilots in #IAF. It‘s a true honour to know them and they are men of a different league. I sincerely pray for the safe return of our warriors.”
