Indian actors mourn the loss of Karunanidhi

In the evening hours of 7th August 2018, Karunanidhi breathed his last in Chennai at the Kauvery hospital. His mortal remains at the Rajaji Hall for the public to pay homage. Karunanidhi, was the chief of the part DMK (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) died when he was 94 years old.

Ever since the announcement of his death, people have been speaking about the end of an era, and how Tamil Nadu’s revolutionary leader is gone. Celebrities too took to their social media pages to convey their regards for the great leader.

“When Anna was alive, the two who grew to guard the party were Kalaignar and MGR. It is only honourable that all three be revered in the same place. It is sad that the young ones who joined the party after MGR don’t honour this. Had MGR been alive and Kalaignar had passed away, he would have ensured that Anna’s thambi was near him.

Apart from politics, Karunanidhi has contributed immensely to cinema as well. He began his career as a screenwriter in the Tamil film industry with the film Rajakumari (1947). He then went on to write over 30 films. His last film as a writer was Ponnar Shankar (2011). He was famous for writing stories that had social and historical themes. One of his most popular films is Parasakthi (1952) which started Sivaji Ganesan in the lead. The film supported the Dravidian ideology and went on to become a box-office success. A leader who changed politics with his party DMK in Tamil Nadu and went on to become one of India’s greatest politicians.
