Exclusive: The Indian censor board modifies 16 words and scenes in Sarkar

Director A. R. Murgadoss and the team of Sarkar have emerged happy after they agreed to settle the issue with writer Varun Rajendran over the pending plagiarism case. In the final verdict A. R. Murgadoss stated that Sarkar is his story and that he appreciates Varun for having the same core idea as his story. In a brief video, A. R. Murgadoss stated that this Diwali will indeed be a ‘Sarkar Diwali’ indicating that the film will open to theatres on 6th November.
Produced by Sun Pictures, and starring Vijay in the lead, Sarkar tells the story of an NRI CEO who comes to India to cast his vote and the challenges he faces when he finds himself in a political battle. According to the British Board of Film Classification, the summary states – ‘Sarkar drama in which a successful businessman challenges political corruption in his home city’. The website also states that a disclaimer which says that the film carries: moderate violence, threat, injury detail, infrequent strong language.
Given that the film has been certified U/A, the Censor Board of Film Certification, India has listed 16 modifications in the film. In the official website, the list includes: muting three to four expletive words and double-meaning lines, Replaced the dialogue related to Shri Jethmalini charging 24 lakhs bill, Removed and Replaced the visual of showing middle finger among others.
Sarkar is said to have a worldwide release and is predicted to take a record-breaking number at the box-office. This marks A. R. Murgadoss and Vijay’s collaboration for the third time after Thuppakki and Kaththi. Sarkar also stars Varalakshmi, Keerthy Suresh and Radha Ravi in pivotal roles. The film’s music has been composed by A. R. Rahman.
