Did you know that Keerthy Suresh rejected Mahanati?

This comes as quite the shocker, but did you know that Keerthy Suresh rejected Mahanati (Nadigaiyar Thilagam in Tamil) when it was first offered to her? Yes, you read that right. Speaking at the IFFM 2018 to film critic Rajeev Masand, Keerthy Suresh was quizzed about her initial reaction to the film when it was narrated to her. She said ”After I heard the story, I told the makers, yes it’s a good script, but after a while, I told them a no, my producers were shocked, they wondered why I rejected a film like this.”

She went on to say ”I was apprehensive about taking the role because I thought I can’t do justice playing the role of legendary actress Savitri”. She added by saying that she believed in her gut instinct and decided to do the role.

Look how amazing her decision turned out for the actress! Keerthy Suresh had an uncanny resemble Savitri in the film. She went on to win accolades from audience and critics alike. The film went on to collect over 1.5 million within two weeks of its release. The team of Mahanati which included director Nag Ashwin, producers Swapna and Ashwini Dutta along with Keerthy Suresh attended The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne where the film won the award for Equality in cinema.
