Actor Parvathy and director Anjali Menon spoke about Women in Cinema Collective, Me Too and more at the Mumbai Film Festival (MAMI) on Tuesday. The WCC was established after the actress assault case which shook the Malayalam film industry, and this was formed way before the Me Too movement in India. Since their popularity is restricted only in the Malayalam film industry, Parvathy and Anjali – two members from the team were invited to speak at MAMI.

Speaking at the forum, Parvathy, who made her Hindi debut with Qarib Qarib Singlle this year, stated that Malayalam film industry needs to learn from Bollywood and its superstars on how to act immediately in cases of sexual harassment. She said that the Tamil and Telugu film industry are also missing out on this. She also stated that even Bollywood needs to have a committee like WCC to monitor work-place harassment in the industry. She also opened up about how she was assaulted when she was young, and that it took her years to heal. She also stated that it’s mentally exhausting for the surviour.

Anjali Menon went on to say ”This whole thing of naming the person is a huge step and to take proactive action is important as it conveys that we are in support of the survivors. There have been reactions happening here and it is important to place the intent and that is proven by action, words don’t help. The silence is a very disturbing stand”.

After the #MeToo movement, Aamir Khan pulled Subash Kapoor out of the biopic based on T-Series boss Gulshan Kumar. Subash has been accused of rape and sexual harassment by a woman. Akshay Kumar decided not to work with Sajid Khan, the director of his upcoming film Housefull 4, after many women accused him of sexual misconduct and harassment.

Here’s a list of south Indian actors who’ve spoken about the Me Too Movement.
