Malayalam celebrities urge Kerala CM to keep Mohanlal out of Kerala State awards

After facing flak for his decision to re-instate Dileep in AMMA, Mohanlal is under the scanner once again. This time it was because he was invited as the chief guest for the Kerala State Awards. A team of actors, writers have signed a petition to chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan requesting him to reconsider his decision, as inviting an actor as a chief guest is improper.

Kerala, culture minister A K Balan stated that Mohanlal had agreed to be the chief guest at the awards function at a meeting which was recently held.

NS Madhavan, the cinematographer of Mohanlal’s latest flick ‘Neerali‘, Santhosh Thundyil, KG Sankarapillai and Sachithanandan; Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) members Rima Kallingal, Geetu Mohandas, Deedi Damodaran, and Vidhu Vincent; social activists like MN Karassery, and young film-makers like Rajeev Ravi and Siddhartha Siva have signed the petition.

The joint statement by the actors states the joint statement says: “This is the highest honour talents in the Malayalam film industry receive from their own state. This is why the awards should be given to them in a culturally appropriate environment. The function should be a simple and dignified one in which the chief minister hands over the prizes to the winners in the presence of the culture minister. To invite a chief guest over and above the chief minister and the award winners is not only an impropriety but an insult to the achievements of the winners.”

What do you think about this? Is it fair to point fingers at Mohanlal?
