3 South Indian films which are set to release in China

2.0 - Mersal - Peranbu

Director S. S. Rajamouli‘s magnum-opus film franchise Baahubali stormed Indian in the years 2014 and 2017. The movies weren’t just blockbusters, but they made Baahubali a household name in India. After it’s Indian release, the film released in China and drew the audience. Film lovers around the world fell in love with the epic saga which featured Prabhas, Anushka, Rana Daggubati, Ramya Krishnan, Tamannaah and Sathyaraj. The film first part, Baahubali, received a lukewarm response at the PRC box office, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion took one of the highest openings and earned a profit for the distributors. Now, director Shankar’s 2.0, India’s most expensive film is set to have a release in China. Here are 3 Tamil films which will have a release in China.

Peranbu

Earlier in July, director Ram‘s Peranbu was screened in China at the Shanghai film festival. The film won appreciation at the screening. After this, director Ram revealed that he and the makers have plans to release the film in China. The film also won applauses At IFFI which was held in Goa. Mammootty plays the father to a differently-abled girl, played by Sadhana. The film also stars Anjali, Samuthirakani, Vadivukkarasi, Sadhana, Livingston, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Anjali Amir and Siddique among others.

Mersal

Directed by Atlee, and starring Vijay in the lead, Mersal was one of the highest-grossing films of 2017. The film told the tale of twin brothers – a magician and a doctor who attempt to expose the corruption of India’s medical field. HGC Entertainment, who are planning to release the film have said “We found the story of Mersal to be a particularly touching story.” The film has been produced under the banner Thenandal Studio Limited

2.0

India’s most expensive film, 2.0 which is made on a budget of close to 600 crores has now grossed 400 crores within the week of its release. Lyca Productions, the makers of 2.0, have released this detail on their Twitter handle. The production house also tweeted about the film’s release in China. The official statement said “Lyca Productions Pvt. Ltd is proud to associate with HY Media, one of China’s most prominent production and distribution companies, for the Chinese release of 2.0, the magnum opus of director Shankar, starring pan-Asian Superstar Rajinikanth and Bollywood megastar Akshay Kumar. HY Media have ongoing collaborations with major Hollywood studios such as Sony, 20th Century Fox, Warner Bros, Universal, and Disney.

2.0, produced by Subaskaran Allirajah, is the biggest film in the history of Indian cinema. Dubbed and subtitled version of 2.0 is slated to release in China in 10,000 theaters with 56,000 screens (including 47,000 3D screens) in May 2019, the widest 3D release for any foreign film in history. Lyca Productions recognises China as a major film market and looks forward to building a long and fruitful relationship with HY Media.”
