“It is an embarrassment that IPL is being held at this juncture when Tamil Nadu is protesting for Cauvery Management Board. But, Chennai Super Kings team and the fans could wear black armbands at least,” Rajinikanth said this to reporters outside his house on Sunday. The actor also took part in the silent protest staged by SIFAA (South Indian Film Artists Association). Not just the Superstar, but Kamal Haasan too took part in the protest. Apart from these actors-turned-politicians, a host of actors including Vishal who is general secretary of the South Indian Film Artists Association (SIFAA), Vijay, his father and noted filmmaker S A Chandrasekar, Surya, Sivakarthikeyan, and Dhanush all expressed took part in the protest that demands for setting up the Cauvery Management Board and Cauvery Water Regulatory Committee and closure of the Sterlite Copper plant in Thoothukudi.
Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan share the same stage
Actors Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan who have now taken the political plunge were the center of attention at the protest. They were seated next to each other, engaging in a discussion. It has to be noted that Kamal Haasan’s political venture began when he founded the Makkal Neethi Maiam this year. Rajinikanth is yet to launch his political party.
Nayanthara, Trisha, and other heroines miss the protest!
The protest looked incomplete without the leading ladies of the Tamil film industry. Heroines such as Trisha, Samantha, Keerthy Suresh and Queen Bee Nayanthara failed to attend the protest staged by SIFAA. However, the event was attended by Sai Dhanshika, Varalakshmi Sarathkumar, and a few others.
