Playback singer Vaikom Vijayalakshmi who shot to fame with Malayalam and Tamil songs such as “Katte Katte” (Celluloid), “Kodayila” (Cuckoo), “Pudhiya Ulagai” (Yennamo Yedho) and “Idharkkuthanae Aasaippattai” (Romeo Juliet) among others has tied the knot with mimicry artist Anoop George at Vaikom Mahadeva Temple, Pala, the groom’s hometown in Kerala.
Dressed in a red silk saree and adorned with traditional Kerala jewellery, Vijayalakshmi looked radiant and happy on her special day. The groom, Anoop was dressed in a cream dhoti and shirt. National award-winning singer Yesudas, attended the wedding and greeted the newly-weds.
Vijayalakshmi, is a visually challenged artist who has earned praises for playing the ‘Gayatri Veena’. In 2012 she was awarded the Kerala State Film Award – Special Mention for “Kaatte Kaatte” from Celluloid, in 2013 she won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Singer for “Ottakku Padunna” from Nadan. She is credited to have worked with music directors such as Santosh Narayanan, D. Imman, M. M. Keeravani and M. Jayachandran among a few. Anoop is an interior designer by profession.
It has to be noted that in 2017, Vijayalakshmi called off her wedding with an NRI Malayali, shortly after the engagement. It is said that it was her decision to do so as her then-fiance put forth a few conditions one of them being that he didn’t want her to continue her career in music. We saute Vijayalakshmi’s brave decision to speak up for herself. We would also like to congratulate the talented singer for a blissful married life.
