Last year in May, a historic initiative in Malayalam cinema began. Called the Women in Cinema Collective a.k.a WCC came into being after the infamous case of actress assault that shook everyone, and in turn, raised questions about the safety of women in the film industry. Actresses such as Revathy, Remya Nambeesan, Indu Namboothiri, Bina Paul, Manju Warrier and Parvathy were some of the women who took initiative to organize this and even met the Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to seek his support.
As WCC completes one year, WCC organized a ‘cinema and conversations’ platform in Kochi earlier on Sunday. The event titled ‘Punarvayana,’ also saw the screening of director Ketan Mehta movie ‘Mirch Masala‘. Speaking at the event Parvathy said that there will be more film screenings in the coming days. Actress Revathy said that she feels happy receiving so much of support for the initiative. She also said that they are aiming at making the industry a healthy environment to help more women join the industry.
