SIIMA Celebrates a Decade: Here are some highlights from #10YearsOfSIIMA

South Indian International Movie Awards (SIIMA) is the most famous award show in South India and it has now reached a milestone. SIIMA completes the big ten! It has been ten glorious years of celebrating South Indian cinema and artists.
The 10th edition of SIIMA is going to take place on the 10th and 11th of September 2022 in Bangalore! While we eagerly wait for the 10th edition of SIIMA, let’s look at the best moments over the years.
SIIMA – 1st edition (2012): Dubai went starry eyed
The first edition of SIIMA took place as grand as any international film festival! It happened in Dubai at the Dubai World Trade Center. R. Madhavan was the host for the night, alongside Lakshmi Manchu and Parvathy Omanakuttan. The most successful movie was Dookudu, fetching eight awards in total! The first show was a huge success!
SIIMA – 2nd edition (2013): Sharjah loved its glittery night
Sharjah’s Expo Centre was the venue for the 2nd edition of SIIMA. The occasion saw the sight of stars including Dhanush, Shruti Haasan, Amala Paul, and Kajal Aggarwal, among other great stars! Gabbar Singh, with a whopping 13 nominations overall, grabbed the most number of nominations!
SIIMA – 3rd edition (2014): Kamal took over Malaysia
The Third edition of SIIMA happened luxuriously at the Malaysia Negara Stadium in Malaysia. The focus of the night was the moment when Kamal Haasan was presented with a tribute for his extraordinary contributions to the South Indian Film industry. Hansika had the most intense performance.
SIIMA – 4th edition (2015): When Dubai couldn’t get enough
The Fourth edition of SIIMA happened again at the Dubai World Trade Centre in Dubai. Under fifteen categories, Mr. and Mrs. Ramachari have won ten magnificent awards this year! Dhanush got awarded as the Pride of South Indian cinema. The lifetime achievement award went to Bharathiraja and KPAC Lalitha for their extraordinary work in the South Indian film industry.
SIIMA – 5th edition (2016): S’pore has a fun time
The event took place at Suntec Convention center in Singapore. Many leading actors from all four South Indian languages were seen performing on stage during 12 shows spread over two days. A montage of all of Chiranjeevi’s most memorable performances was presented on stage as a suitable tribute.
SIIMA – 6th edition (2017): Abu Dhabi sees the best
The sixth edition of SIIMA took place at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center in Abu Dhabi. Thalapathy Vijay won the entertainer of the year award for his outstanding work in the film Theri. Honorary lifetime achievement awards were given to S.P. Balachandran and Murali Mohan.
Sivakarthikeyan won the Best Actor award in Tamil for his performance in Remo, and Trisha won the Best Actress award in a negative Role prize for her work in Kodi. Without the brilliant performances of performers like Nani, Rana Daggubati, Regina Cassandra, and Akhil, the event would not have been complete.
SIIMA – 7th edition (2018): Dubai becomes star-studded
The seventh edition of SIIMA took place at Bollywood Parks in Dubai. Leading figures from all four industries, including Hansika Motwani, Keerthy Suresh, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sanjjanaa Galrani, Shriya Saran, and Shubra Aiyappa, walked the red carpet.
Many more celebrities, including Rana Daggubati, Nandamuri Balakrishna, Shanvi Srivastava, and Bollywood filmmaker Kabir Khan, were sighted visiting the festival.Tamil movie stars came to Dubai to accept honors, from Kollywood star Madhavan to the gorgeous Hansika. Legendary singer P. Susheela got a lifetime achievement award for her work in the film industry!
SIIMA – 8th edition (2019): Doha saw the best of southern Indian stars
This year, the event happened at the Lusail Sports Arena in Doha, Qatar. The movie KGF Chapter 1 in Kannada won several accolades. Meanwhile, Chiranjeevi, received the SIIMA 2019 Guest of Honor Award. The Best Actor and Best Director Awards went to KGF’s Yash and Prashant Neel, respectively. Additionally, there were more spectators at the event than ever before.
SIIMA – 9th edition (2021): Two years wrapped in one big event
This edition is unique since there were two years of celebrations packed into two days! The festival couldn’t happen in 2020 because of the COVID pandemic. The two days gala fest took place at Hyderabad International Convention Center in Hyderabad. A total of a whopping 119 recipients were given awards.
Since 2012 SIIMA has grown a lot bigger and is recognized worldwide. Needless to say, we cannot wait to watch the upcoming SIIMA awards 2022 event live. Stay tuned to DGZ Media for more updates!
