A decade ago, in the year 2009, Indians all around the world felt proud. This was the year A. R. Rahman won two Oscar awards for his composition for Slumdog Millionaire. Now in 2019, Period End Of Sentence, a documentary filmed in India has won the Best Documentary Short at the Oscars. 1. For the world A. R. Rahman is a soft-spoken and humble music composer, but a recent interview revealed something new about the composer. Speaking to a media portal he revealed that he’s just like one of us. When asked how he felt on the eve of the big award event, Rahman said “Actually nothing. I was just starving to look thin for the ceremony!”
2. The voice behind Vasigara (Minnale – Tamil), and Zara zara (Rehna Hai Tere Dil mein – Hindi) can melt even the coldest heart. We’re talking on Bombay Jayashri. In 2013, she was nominated under the category Best Original Score for the film Life of Pi.
3. In 1992, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awarded Satyajit Ray an Honorary Oscar in 1992 for Lifetime Achievement. Due to his ill health, gave his acceptance speech to the Academy via live video feed from the hospital bed.
4. Bhanu Athaiya, the first Indian to win the Oscar award decided to send her award back to The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences because she felt that her family will not be able to take care of the trophy after her demise.
5. In 2009, Resul Pookutty won the award for Best Sound Mixing along with Ian Tapp and Richard Pryke for his work in Slumdog Millionaire.
