4 Tamil celebrities who have converted their religion to Islam

One of the many privileges a person enjoys is his freedom to choose. Be it his freedom to choose his friends or his decision, people enjoy it! One needs to understand that he or she is allowed to choose any religion of their choice. Want to convert to Buddhism? Sure. Or are you someone who doesn’t want to follow any religion – it is possible! Recently, music composer Kuralarasan has converted from Hinduism to Islam. Here’s a list of celebrities who have done so in the past.
A. R. Rahman
Born as A. S. Dileep Kumar, the Academy award-winning music composer changed his faith at the age of 23. Rahman got introduced to Islam when his sister was ill, following his deep connection with the religion, he decided to embrace Islam. Soon, Dilip Kumar became Allahrakka Rahman. Upon winning his Oscar in the year 2009, he said ‘Yellam Puzghalum Iraivanuke’ which translates to ‘All praise to God’.
Yuvan Shankar Raja
Son of legendary music composer Ilayaraja, Yuvan Shankar Raja has made a name for himself in the Tamil film industry. His recent hit ‘Rowdy Baby’ has crossed over 200 million views on YouTube, and it has been deemed a viral hit. In 2014, Yuvan took to his Twitter account to say that he has embraced Islam and he changed his name to Abdul Khaliq. In 2015, Yuvan Shankar Raja got married to Zafroon Nisa.
Monica
Azhagi fame Monica, began her career in films as a child artist. In 2014, Monica converted her name to M. G. Rahima. The M stands for Maruthi Raj (Father) and G. – Gracy (Mother). She went on to say ”I didn’t convert for the reason of love or money, I am not such a person. I like Islamic principles, so I converted to Islam.” She has starred in films such as Indira and Aasai.
Kuralarasan
The recent celebrity, to join the list is music composer Kuralarasan. Brother of actor Silambarasan (Simbu) and son of director T. Rajendar, Kuralarasan began his career as a child actor. He converted to the faith in the presence of his father at a popular mosque in Chennai.
