Tamizh Padam 2 Movie Review
Do you love memes? Do you find yourself laughing at silly-puns and memes? Are you someone who is willing to laugh at the moments even in your favorite heroes films? If the answer to everything is yes. Then worry not. You aren’t diagnosed with a problem. These are the perfect qualities one needs to have to watch director C. S. Amudhan’s Tamizh Padam 2. The film depicts sequences which are in relevance to the latest films and political issues that took place nationally and internationally.  From Rajinikanth to Ajith and Baahubali to Game Of Thrones, this film doesn’t spare anyone from being spoofed. It’s bigger and better than it’s predecessor, Tamizh Padam which released in the year 2010.
The film promises to be a rib-tickling comedy right from the beginning, where Shiva is seen in Kamal Haasan’s Thevar Magan hairdo, sporting a mullet, where he decides to stop the on-going riots with his speech. It’s so lengthy that everyone falls asleep and the riots end.
The story revolves around Shiva (Shiva), a police officer who avenges the death of his wife (Disha Pandey), by trying to nab an invincible don named Mr. P (Sathish).
The film takes a jibe at the regular cliches that appear in films. One such example is the scene featuring a cameo by Jiiva. An accident kills Shiva’s friend, however, on the spot Jiiva advice Shiva and his girlfriend (Ishwarya Menon) to forget it and break into a song, because that’s what films do! In another scene, when Sathish is overwhelmed seeing money, he mimics Ajith’s popular scene from Mankatha, and he is interrupted by a silly pun.
Tamizh Padam 2 also takes a dig at scenes from director Gautham Menon’s films such as Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu, Vaaranam Aayiram, Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa and even director Siva’s Veeram and Vivegam.
While Shiva goes on to spoof Ajith, Vijay, Rajinikanth and Vishal, Sathish appears in several getups. From Kamal Haasan’s look in Vishwaroopam to the Akshay Kumar’s in the unreleased film 2.0, Sathish dons several looks – so much so that it made it seem like a cosplay convention.  Sathish’s performance is also quite good in the film. He has a full-fledged role that’s different from the rest of the films, where he often plays the hero’s friend.
Shiva can rightfully own the title of being an who is the perfect fit in a spoof film! His effortless attitude, poker face reaction to jokes, and a sense of humor make him the right actor to be cast in spoof cinema genre. If he was a stand-up comic, he would win big with his confidence and humor. He looks comfortable with the satire in this genre, and the way he mimics the actors is uncanny! He is undoubtedly one of the strengths of  Tamizh Padam 2.
The film is an enjoyable watch, however, since the film aims at quashing the cliches and the popular scenes of cinema, there could’ve been extended versions of spoof scenes. And the heroine’s role could’ve been written better. Although the second half does try to deliver something new, it derails from the plot and does get a tad bit tiring. The ‘item’ song could have clearly been avoided since films these days rarely feature them.
Overall, the film is a different watch from the usual ‘masala’ movies which release so often. Who says you need to have star power to please the masses? You can even make a spoof film and win.
