Remember ‘Kutty’ Radhika? Here’s why she is trending

The nation currently is focused on the political scenario in Karnataka. The heavy battle between Congress -JD (s) and BJP, has led to BJP’s BS Yeddyurappa taking up the duty and resigning within a span of two days. Now, Janata Dal leader HD Kumaraswamy (Son former Prime Minister of India, H. D. Deve Gowda) will be sworn in as the chief minister of Karnataka. But why is this news of interest to film buffs?

Did you know that the politician is married to actress and producer Radhika? Doesn’t ring a bell? Let’s remind you who she is.

After appearing in a number of Kannada films, Radhika’s first Tamil film was Iyarkai which was released in the year 2003. She then went on to act in a handful number of Tamil and Telugu film. Later she shifted base to Kannada cinema.

Radhika was previously married to Ratan Kumar. It is reported that she was forcibly married to at the age of 14. In 2002, Ratan Kumar died of a heart attack. After pursuing her interest in films, Radhika got married to HD Kumaraswamy in 2006, however, the news about their marriage was kept under wraps as it was HD Kumaraswamy’s second marriage. Head of Congress’ digital media team, Ramya exposed HD Kumaraswamy’s marriage to the media. After the minister attacked her with personal remarks, Ramya revealed about Kumarswamy’s marriage to the media. She said she knew about the marriage as she had acted in a film (Lucky) produced by his wife Radhika.

In 2013, Radhika promoted Sweetie Nanna Jodi, which she produced where the CD contained the text “Sri HD Kumaraswamy presents”. This was an open indication that she didn’t want to hide the marriage anymore. The two have a daughter named Shamika K. Swamy.

It has to be noted that when HD Kumaraswamy, was new to politics, he was a full-fledged film producer and exhibitor.
