The maestro Illaiyaraaja and A.R. Rahman wow fans at Illaiyaraaja 75

The grand Celebration of Ilayaraja 75 commenced on February 2nd in YMCA Ground, Nandanam. Many celebrities were invited including the Governor of Tamil Nadu Mr. Banwarilal Purohit. The biggest surprise was when A.R. Rahman stepped in for the event. He didn’t just attend but also played The maestro Ilayaraja’s music on the piano with the maestro himself singing along. That was such a precious “once in a blue moon” situation for their music lovers. If anyone is giving Oscar’s for the “moment of the year” it should absolutely go to this.

A.R. Rahman first played the iconic “Punnagai Mannan” theme music on piano which sent a wave of excitement amongst the audience and also put a smile on Raja sir’s face. Check it out:

Later when Raja sir started singing “Mandram vandha thendraluku” from “Mounaragam” A.R. Rahman played along in the piano but only to be schooled by Raja sir. One thing is sure you can go in any number of Oscars but you’ll never graduate from the Ilayaraja music school. This moment also ensured that the audience got their due back for quite the “pricey” tickets they had paid for. Though social media is flooded with love for this duo people did feel Ilayaraja was a little dominating towards A.R.Rahman but we all know they have a kind of Student-Teacher dynamics between them so it was only natural. A.R.Rahman was very graceful on the stage and completely his humble self which has increased the love and respect towards the man(if only that is possible)

The event will continue on February 3rd too with the man of the event himself performing live with his Budapest Orchestra. The audience is looking forward to more magical moments.
