After her marriage to actor Suriya in the year 2006, Jyothika bid adieu to films. She later made her comeback in the year 2015 with the film 36 Vayadhinile. Since then she has starred in other performance oriented roles Magalir Mattum, Naachiyaar, and Chekka Chivantha Vaanam. Now, the actress is ready with her latest film Kaatrin Mozhi which is the remake of the Bollywood film Tumhari Sullu. Speaking at the recent press meet, the actress said she had fun working on the film, and teaming up with her Mozhi director Radha Mohan once again. She went on to say that her innings in the industry has been good, and the only actors she’s been comfortable working with are Suriya, Madhavan and Ajith.
In a recent interview, Jyothika also spoke about how women are portrayed in Tamil cinema. She said ”I have signed all big films in the past even without listening to the story. But now, it isn’t like that. I listen to the story because I leave my kids at home and come to work outside and it should be worth my time. Back then heroines were made just to appear in the film without having to perform anything. I also admit to signing such films. But I wonder why directors are doing it now. In the last 10 years a lot has changed. Directors need to take social responsibility of what they show on screen. When I watch heroines in films these days I wonder if the mothers, sisters, and wives of these directors are like this in real life. There is no intelligence in these characters.”
Do you agree with Jyothika? We certainly do!
Kaatrin Mozhi also stars Vidharth and Lakshmi Manchu in pivotal roles. It is set to release on 16th November.
