All is not well in the Rajinikanth household. Latha Rajinikanth, wife of actor Rajinikanth has been asked by the Supreme Court to face trial in a cheating case, where she failed to pay the due amount of Rs. 6.20 crore to advertising firm Ad Bureau.
What happened?
The dispute started in 2014, when Mediaone Global Entertainment Ltd, in which Latha Rajinikanth was the director took a loan of Rs. 10 crores for completing the post-production work of Kochadaiyaan, a film directed by her daughter, Soundarya Rajinikanth. The firm later went to court alleging that Mediaone had defaulted on payment on 6. 2 crores.
They said that Mediaone Global Entertainment Ltd was to refund Rs. 10 crore along with Rs. 1.2 crore and had involved themselves in the project as per Latha Rajinikanth’s guarantee. However, due to non-payment, the counsel appearing for the agency told the bench that Latha Rajinikanth had not paid the money to them as per the undertaking was given by the council.
The Karnataka High Court, cancelled legal proceedings against Latha Rajnikanth, stating that it was a case of breach of an agreement. However, the Supereme court quashed this as went on to say “If you don’t pay, then be ready to face trial.”
