”No film distributors are ready to release Rajinikanth‘s ‘Kaala‘ in Karnataka”: Sara Govindu, President of Karnataka Films Chamber of Commerce.
Actor Rajinikanth’s Kaala is one of the most-awaited films of the season. Directed by Pa. Ranjith, the film is set to hit screens on 7th June. However, the makers of the film and fans of the superstar were in for a shock last night when The Confederation of Pro-Kannada Organisations called for a ban. Following this, the distributors and exhibitors had approached the film chamber stating that they don’t want to release it in the state, fearing that protesters would pelt stones the theatres. The reason: Rajinikanth’s stance of the Cauvery issue.
Speaking to the press a few days ago Rajinikanth said ”Whichever party comes to power, the Karnataka government, should implement the Supreme Court orders on the Cauvery water in its full letter and spirit. Let us not get into the technicalities of whether it is going to be an authority or a board. The court has given a clear ruling,”
Now the pro-Kannada organizations, have demanded an apology from Rajinikanth to revoke the ban. In 2017, they decided to stall the release of Baahubali 2 in Karnataka, over actor Sathyaraj‘s comments about the Cauvery issue. It was only after Sathyaraj’s apology, the film was released.
