Vijay - Sarkar - AR Murugadoss

In new developments, Sun Pictures and A. R. Murgadoss have offered settlement in form of ‘thank you/appreciation’  to writer Varun Rajendran over the Sarkar plagiarism row. A week before its release, A. R. Murgadoss has been accused of plagiarizing the story written by Varun Rajedran for his film Sengol.

However, the posters of Sarkar revealed that A. R. Murgadoss and Jeyamohan wrote the script. A. R. Murgadoss even went on record to say the crux of the story which revolves around CEO of a company abroad (reportedly Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai), who returns to India to cast his vote in the election.

However, days later, Varun Rajendran took the issue to the South Indian Film Writers Association (SIFWA) stating that he registered the story with the Writers Association in 2007. He also stated that he had narrated the script to Vijay’s father SA Chandrasekhar. The SIFWA and Bhagyaraj the president of the union investigated the issue and confirmed Varun’s claim. After this, A. R. Murgadoss denied the accusation and called out Bhagyaraj for being biased to Varun. He said ”Bhagyaraj should have read my full-script or seen my film which I offered to show him. But, he didn’t, what did I do to deserve such a big punishment?”

However, this isn’t the first time A. R. Murgadoss has been accused of story theft. In 2014, director Gopi Nayinar filed a case against A. R. Murgadoss for stealing his story. He later went on to withdraw the case and direct Aarm, a hit film starring Nayanthara in the lead. He was also accused of claiming the story of Ghajini to be his, when infact it was a based on Christopher Nolan’s Memento.
