Peranbu - Pariyerum Perumal - National Film Awards

The full list of the 66th National Film Award winners were announced today. While it was announced that Vicky Kaushal and Ayushmann were adjudged Best Actors for their role in URI and Andhadhun respectively. Keerthy Suresh was adjudged Best Actress. As much as fans of Vicky and Ayushmann are celebrating their victory, a section of moviebuffs are disappointed. The reason? It is that Mammootty’s name didn’t make it to the list! It comes as a surprise, especially since his performance in 2018’s Peranbu won appreciation from everyone who has watched it. Even at the Shanghai International Film Festival, the audience poured praises on the film’s director Ram and were moved by Mammootty’s performance. In the film, Mammootty played the role of a father to physically Challenged daughter (Sadhana), whose mother abandons her. The film moved even the coldest of hearts, as it was brought to life by realistic performances.

However, this isn’t the first time fans have been left disappointed. In 2009 it was expected that he would win the National award for films Paleri Manikam, Pazhaasi Raja, and for Pathemari in 2015, however it wasn’t the case.

As much as they are upset about this, fans are also upset that the film Pariyerum Perumal which highlights caste based violence in a realistic way, wasn’t even mentioned. Directed by Mari Selvaraj, the film was one of 2018s best. It won awards at the Toulouse Indian Film Festival as well as the Norway Tamil Film Festival Awards.

The National film awards may not have acknowledged this brilliant artist and the films, however, the way film buffs on social media and sharing this views, it’s proof that these mentioned names stayed in the hearts of the audience!
